Various Westlake Yacht Club and Art Deco Society Events |
On this page I wanted to record pictures from several events we also partook in over the year. This includes events at the Westlake Village Yacht Club (WYC) and with the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles.
The first picture below is from Sandra's book club friend's birthday party. The idea was to come dressed in some period piece so we went with the sort of flapper / me in suspenders type of look.
One of the more fun events hosted at the yacht club is the annual Oscars watch party. This year, somebody even brought a Bentley, and put out a red carpet. And since several club members are winners of the Academy Awards, I actually got to hold a real Oscar in my hands!
Another really fun event we got to do was to attend an Alex Mendham show at the historic Los Angeles Theatre in downtown LA that was organized by the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles. This is a really neat organization that we first found out about on our first trip to Catalina, which happened to coincide with their annual ball. We live close to a costume rental shop (where even celebrities rent their outfits since I happened at one point to rent the same costume Jamie Foxx was previously photographed in at some award show) so we went all 1920s style. I particularly enjoyed our walk from the Pershing Square garage, us in our old timey outfits, with Los Angeles skyscrapers behind us. Then the event was really spectacular. I honestly did not even know that building like this theatre existed in LA. It is so beautiful on the inside. The main event was Alex Mendham performance backed by LA Follies dance troupe. This was such a cool show, I really wish these kinds of performances were more common place! Given we were in what used to be a movie theatre, there was also a screening of a Charlie Chaplin film.
