Here are some pictures from our May 2023 weekend trip to Palm Springs. This our annual voyage to redeem a Hyatt free night award. In the past we used to go to the Regency in Newport Beach but it was time for a change. It was also a trip to celebrate my birthday. The evening started with sushi and cocktails at Sandfish, which, per my Google Maps research, seemed like one of the more upscale dining options. It was nice. We then went sightseeing, including at the Forever Marilyn park. I was really surprised how much Palm Spring has changed in the few years since I have been. This area was surrounded by what appeared to be new apartment buildings, with club music emanating from their rooftop patios. My recollection from the prior trip was that Palm Springs was a place for elder, beach-bar, shorts and a t-shirt clientele, but instead we were treated to a younger, hipper, and more upscale scene.
The next morning we took advantage of the free bicycles provided by the hotel to go for a 5.7 mile bike ride that first took us to Vistas Las Palmas north of the hotel, and then the Historic Tennis Club area to the south. There are plenty of nice houses around here! For breakfast we ventured to a French coffee shop, probably Crepes de Paris, but don't remember anymore. We were really surprised by the amount of French speakers all around! Turns out, it's mostly French Canadians. Later on, we visited the Palm Springs Art Museum. I highly recommend you make your way here. It features many interesting works of art, including extremely realistic wax statues including of our favorite: an old couple sitting on a bench.
